It’s
FLU Season: No vaccination required!
So,
I have been consumed by inFLUenza symptoms for a full week as of today.
It
arrived suddenly and unexpectantly just as it is
programmed to do. My experience began with a dry cough, followed by a
sore throat and watery eyes; all of which were, of course, aggravated by my day
trip to “The Haunt” at Kings Island Amusement Park in Cincinnati, Ohio.
I
woke up Sunday morning to exacerbated
aches, muscle, and joint pain (at my age this has become a daily experience). I, however, was certain the excess pain was due
to all the “shake, rattle, and roll” of my rollercoaster adventures the day
prior.
Monday
morning greeted me with the MOTHER of all migraines, a severe headache accompanied by light and noise sensitivity. I, unfortunately, also had a phone interview that
day, which needless to say did not go well. By Monday night I was experiencing
every flu symptom available, according to WebMD.
- Severe aches in muscles and joints
- Pain and tiredness around your eyes
- Weakness or extreme fatigue
- Warm, flushed skin and red, watery eyes
- A headache
- A dry cough
- A sore throat and runny nose
And, a fever
(highest reading 101.3), nausea, upset stomach,
and dizziness.
Being a licensed
Registered Nurse, I chose to refrain from seeing a doctor to obtain prescribed routine antibiotics
(azithromycin or Z-Pac) and instead opted
for an over-the-counter regimen of acetaminophen for a headache and fever, ibuprofen for joint pain, and Mylanta for stomach
discomfort. My diet consisted of copious amounts of water, orange juice, tea
with lemon and honey, and vegetable soup. During this time my male companion
ensured that all of my basic needs were
met, as I slept on the living room sofa, watching Amazon Prime and Netflix
originals intermittently.
By Friday, I was
feeling about 85% better and decided to take a bike ride around the community,
followed by dinner and a comedy show along with friends of ours. Needless
to say, I ate too much, drank too much, and laughed (too much??). And,
unbeknownst to me (consciously), I developed rare
symptoms of ungratefulness, disrespectfulness, rudeness, and a severe case of “bitchitis”
all within a 24 hour period.
Today is Saturday
and I feel MISERABLE!
As I sit here feeling
stupified by this unproductive DIS-ease, I think that I have uncovered its origin and root cause. This new
knowledge requires a redefining of the FLU and the formation of a more wholistic approach to its prevention
and treatment.
“FREE LOVE UNSUNG”
Free defined as “not physically
restrained, obstructed, or fixed; unimpeded.”
Love defined as “an intense feeling of
deep affection”
Unsung defined as “not celebrated or
praised”
Right
now, you may be scratching your head and saying to yourself, “What?”
“What do
the flu and free love unsung have in
common?”
My
response is a resounding, “EVERYTHING!”
In
a nutshell, “Love don’t cost a thing”, yet we withhold it, refuse it, and
ignore it.
My
disease (origin: lack of ease) was caused by my subconscious decision to withhold
my love (my energy, my power); which is in direct opposition to the nature and
function of all creation (more on that
later). You see, I made a conscious choice to suppress my desire
to do what I am gifted to do – create clean, safe, and beautiful spaces. I
chose not to do so because I felt those
actions were not being celebrated or praised (unsung).
While
encumbered by my illness (origin: wickedness),
my male companion ensured that I
was fed, medicated and hydrated to ensure my recovery. As the week progressed,
I felt better and was up on my feet again and began
to complain about the condition of
the spaces (in our home). Conditions that occurred while I was ill. Yes, he extended his love (his
energy, his power) to me and for me. And it was neither celebrated nor praised (unsung).

LOVE IS THE CURE

What if love is more than just an intense feeling of deep affection? What
if we consider this?
“Love is Metaphysical
Gravity.” -Buckminster Fuller
Ron Joniak says
that “As
far as we know, gravity is one of the four fundamental forces and pulls all
matter together. Calling love ‘metaphysical’ gravity is precise in the sense
that love pulls us all together. Whether love is found in a relationship or in
a particular interest we are bound by the emotion that love seems to generate
within us. Love
can be thought of as a universal principle that binds us to one another in the
metaphysical sense of our emotions. There is no escaping it.”
I agree that both Fuller and Joniak present a profound theory and worth contemplation. However, I would add the proposition that love is pure source energy; always
present, shifting, circulating, oscillating and eagerly seeking to unite and transform
into material or physical manifestations. Regardless, of how you choose to
define love, most will agree about its magnetic characteristics. Whether it be
the glue that bonds, the magnet that
attracts, or the honey which catch fly’s,
love is a natural adhesive that promotes
healing.
If
we each committed to enabling Love’s effortless flow by tearing down our own
levees (free from obstructions and impediments), we become both the giver and the receiver of its benefits (healing power). Additionally, celebrating and praising the many diverse expressions of love we experience (every moment of every day) could essentially manifest the power to eradicate most (if not all) aspects of unEASYness (disease) and WICKEDness (illness) once and for all!
Therefore, free-flowing, reciprocated LOVE is the key ingredient, the only intervention, and the preferred treatment for the FLU, no vaccination required!
